Hey folks!
I'm new to the forums, but not to the game or the army. I have played on and off since 3rd edition and I got many different armies on my shelf. Mainly somewhat dated ones (Eldar, Deamonhunters and Necrons).
Recently I have begun playing some 5th ed and I enjoy it alot. Now, this armylist is a stab at getting the Tyranids on their knees. Comments please!
HQ 1x Lord with res orb, phylactery and lightning field
1x Lord with destroyer body, warschyte, phylactery and phase shifter
Elites 7x Immortals (lord on foot goes here)
Troops 3x10 Warriors
Fast Attack 5x Destroyers
4x Scarabs
3x Scarabs
Heavy Support 2x Tomb Spyders
1x Monolith
1x Tomb Stalker
Total: 1999 pts
The main idea is having th warriors with immortals and lord on foot gunning down all those pesky gaunts and genestealers while destroyers mangle the more lethal targets like Hive Guard and Monsters. The scarabs are there to turbo boost and tie up dangerous ranged units like Zoanthropes, Biovores and Hive Guards. The Destroyer lord is to join either the scarabs och destroyers and detach and charge whatever other CC vulnerable unit, again like the Zoes, Biovores and Hive Guard. The Monolith is there to murder tyranid warrior squads with the particle whip or lend some retreat options should I get charged by something by teleporting the unit out. And the Tomb Stalker is there to scare the Tyranids from coming charging straight in (I can have huge dangerous cc monsters too!). That said, I am really worried. The nids seems crazy powerfull with thier new codex, taking HQ monsters as troop choices and being able to spawn unlimited troops makes them a nightmare when fighting an objective based game like this.a
So what do you guys think? Do I stand a chance? Should I redo something, drop something or add something?
Cheers!

well, being a nid player myself, i rely on my hive tyrant a lot. if your versing a nid player he is bound to have one and that will be your untying. the nightbringer hunts hive tyrants for sport so i suggest axing something and putting him in. cheers

Yeah, the nightbringer is nice. But we have agreed to not using special characters. So no c'tan for me (and no Doom of malantai or swarmlord for him). Also, the risk of a c'tan being swarmed with gaunts and dragged down by posioned scares me. A 100pts Troop murdering a 360pt HQ, man...
But yeah, the tyrant is dangerous. My plan here would more or less be to have the destroyers pound on him and maybe the tomb stalker?
Necrons kinda struggle against nidzilla builds I suppose. Dunno how to actually counter that effectively without a C'tan.

C'Tan swarmed by gaunts? Gaze of Death/Etheric Tempest would do the trick.
And yes, the easiest way to count Nidzilla is C'Tan.

er lith templates deal pretty well with anything and there is not a lot in the nid army that can really damage the metal monstrosity.
Come to think of it the template will deal with pretty much anything in the nid army. The other option is destroyers and heavy destroyers playing "catch me if you can" while shooting the crap out of everything on the table pretty much.

well first off all.. what about your force chart.. you only able to have 3 heavy support units.. and you cannot make a unit of 2 spyder.. sooo you will not be able to play with this list. (sorry dude) but that okay you always just drop 1 of the spyders and add 1 destroyer.. 6 heavy destroyers is so nice to have agianst nids.. i once played with 6 destroyers and in the 3rd turn almost all MCs were gone..

You can take spyders in squads of 3. Do you mean heavy destroyer or normal because you can't have six normal and maximum squad size for heavies is 3.

If you check the book you will find that you can in fact take 9 spyders in an army!! you can take a squad of up to 3 and they dont have to stay in coherancy and are deployed and considered for games purposes to be independant units! On topic I would suggest that on the foot lord drop lightning and give him GoF instead. Reduce the number of incoming attacks, bearing in mind the immortals are supposed to avoid CC at all costs. Stick lightning on the destroyer lord and add him to the scarabs to hunt heavy weapons guys in back field or screen him with the scarabs to bog down a big unit like genestealers before lordie massacres them. Combine both squads of scarabs into 1 squad and drop 10 warriors. You need to maximise fire output to take down the synapse and then deal with hordes of lesser critters like gaunts. You need to either go immortal heavy or destroyer heavy or a mix of the 2 but you need the range of destroyers and their manuverability will allow you to keep out of combat longer while still firing your 36" 3 shot weapons!! I recently played 1500 against a nid player and used 12 destroyers and 6 heavy destroyers and won by 8 kill points to 3, and the only reason he got the 3rd was cos I gave him it!

Crush the Synapse! Destroy the swarm!
Also maybe field two monolith's if you can. Tyranids don't really have anything but zoanthropes to deal with the liths. If they put them in a spore they have an okay chance of destroying the monolith, but often they are just best off using that power elsewhere.

The problem with killing off the synapse is that unless you have scarabs as a bait unit because of feeder reaction units having to charge towards the closest enemy unit.

Easier said then done. How I run my Tyranids there are way to many bugs to just "shoot them all" and going for my Synapse creature wont do you any good, cause I have so many of them and they are T6 with 4 or 6 wounds a piece.

The problem with killing off the synapse is that unless you have scarabs as a bait unit because of feeder reaction units having to charge towards the closest enemy unit. Remember you have an easier time to choose what unit you want to be charged. You might just pull forth a Unit that's Relativ small. Hopefully that unit will num the Necrons pretty fast so that they are no longer locked in combat and becomes easy targets for shooting. In that way you have minimized the Potensial damage. Also I tell you, that there is a lot that you want to have Lurking. So I still say: Go for the Synapse. Also Necrons have a Tough time taking down the multiwound T6 Creatures. So have something good against that. And Protect your flanks! Genestealers are your worst nightmare! So do everything to get rid of them as fast as possible.
