Ok, so I am actually thinking of playing Necrons. I know, I know, it is a bad idea but I want to give it a go . So I was thinking of running a more fluff like army, but fluff as in the BlackLibrary books, not in the codex. So this army would consist of Warriors, Tomb spyders, Flayed ones, and scarabs. The reason for this is because it is actually a good army build, cheap-er to buy,... and it is the one I want to use. Quick list sketch: HQ: Necron lord- Warscythe, Phase shifter, Resurrection orb- 180 pts. Elites: Flayed Ones- 10x- 180 pts. Troops: Warriors- 10x- 180 pts. Warriors- 10x- 180 pts. Warriors- 10x- 180 pts. Warriors- 10x- 180 pts. Heavy Support: Tomb Spyders- 3x- 165 pts. Monolith- 235 pts. Total: 1,480 pts. Not bad I think. Have all four Warrior squads in a line with the three Tomb Spyders in between the Warriors and the Lord in the very middle. Monolith at the back with the Flayed ones Outflanking. Pretty solid I think.

The main problem should be if you run into something tank heavy. Since you seems to have the ressurection covered by so many spyders you might want to change the lord to a destroyer lord and give him a phaseshifter and a scythe and som scarabs to join. He could zoom around and carve up tanks and heavy weapon teams like nobodies bussiness. Turboboosting with scarabs give them a 2+ coversave Should still be a fluffy list, yes?

Put the lith in the front and use it as a shield for some warriors, drop 1 warrior squad for another 10 flayed ones cos 10 on their own will get butchered, 20 is a little more daunting.
Its nice to see people still trying to build good lists. I played a wraith wing this week against a marine bike list and lost by 1 WBB roll!! I love my crons and hope that the new book is here soon and that it makes our stuff better but hey.

Sad, this is a Necro thread but it is still no the first page... So I guess it isn't hurting anybody.
My idea was: the best thing we have going for us with this current codex is WBB, so I was trying to set up an army list to make best use of that.

WBB is a tricky issue.
Having the spyders allows you to spread out more and having the RO lord gives 1 or maybe 2 squads WBB no matter what. The best way to optimise WBB is to have 5 warrior squads with a spyder between and 2 destroyer lords with RO floating behind to offer WBB to any warrior units that get assaulted in CC.

I like the wall of Warriors. The biggest problem is that so many forces have the ability to get into close combat so quickly they are able to negate the Necron's strong mid range shooting.

^ That is true. The biggest problem we have is the majority of our units have mid-range weapons, so people either stay away from us, or get in to close that we cannot shoot them. That is why I like the flayed ones, perfect for a good counter strike against any assault units.
