Greetings fellow Overlords.
Just picked up the necron codex today and made my first list. Been a long time since I started a new army from scratch so will be fun.
First off few things about myself. I'm a huge fantasy player, have 5 armies and tons of models. I don't play a whole lot of 40k though, only have a 1500pts CSM army but I've decided it's time for that to change, so I'm aiming for getting a solid 2k or so of necrons in the near future.
So here is my first try at a list. I'd love advise, and here are a few things to keep in mind about my list building:
I don't like to maximize my lists. My CSM are a 100% mechanized army-hardly your best CSM army. That being said I play to win of course so I still aim to have a competitive army. Course I do go for harder lists when it comes to tournaments.
I like speed. Speed means lot of maneuvering and quick redeployments which can throw your opponent off balance. Also keeps the game fluid. Other than speed I don't have many preferences. Probably won't get to my "speed" army until I've got a more generic list down first.
I'm also running a tad low on cash these days so at least for starting my army I need to keep it fairly cheap.
So without further ado here is my first draft of a 1k list:
Overlord-135pts
sempiternal weave
resurection orb
20 necron warriors-260pts
My tarpit to absorb fire and blast anyone who comes near with gausses. With the overlord with them I figure 20 warriors will be hard to take down. Not even sure if I need 20..
10 deathmarks-190pts
accompanied by a necron lord with resurection orb-65pts
I love the deathmark models so without a doubt they are going to be in all my lists. I'm not sure if they need that necron lord though, put him with them to increase their survivability.
2x annihilation barges-180pts
Two fairly cheap vehicles with a good amount of firepower that start the game with 13AV on the front and sides. What's not to like?
3 heavy destroyers-180pts
My anti vehicle/MC/terminators unit, can't go wrong with some S9 AP2 shots
I know with my like for speed you'd expect some night scythes but I figured I'll get one later. I'm tempted to put most of my army in night scythes but I think that's too far on the maximizing side.
One thing I am thinking about is using a ghost ark or two. Bad idea?
Other units I'm considering are tomb blades (can't do much damage but look cool..), triach stalker (interesting synergy with the targeting relay rule), Canoptek Spyders as nice, cheap MCs but I do see them competing for other heavy choices, and either lynchguards or triarch praetorians for some CC power. Also not sure about my character builds.
Thanks in advance for any advise, really looking forward to discussing necron tactics with people who have some experience.
