Promised a small test-game using the house rule ideas developed in this thread:
necrontombworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gw&action=display&thread=347
Here it goes:
Army Lists:
Necron: 315pts
*Specialized Warfare: ...... 25pts
- One unit within the Elite, Fast Attack, or Heavy Support slot of your army book may be taken as Troops.
The units therefore counts as being "scoring".
List: ...... 290pts
Overlord (Warscythe, Mindschackle, Semptiernal Weave)
5 Teslamortals
1 Spyder (Twin-linked Particle Beamer)
Dark Eldar: 315pts
List: 315pts
Haemonculus (Liquifier Gun,Venom Blade)
5 Kabalites (Blaster)
5 Kabalites (Blaster)
Setup:
Deployment Map:
- Dawn of War
Objective Markers:
- 1+D3 = 2 Markers
Player 1: Necrons
- Warlord Trait: (roll a D6 on each table and choose) - Target Priority
- Mission: Hold and Secure
- Primary Objective: Seize and Protect
Player 2: Dark Eldar
- Warlord Trait: (roll a D6 on each table and choose) - Tenacity
- Mission: Annihilation
- Primary Objective: Slay the Warlord
Notes:
- Night Fight: Off
- Environmental Hazards: Off
Game Length:
- 3 Turns (Turn 4 on a 4+, turn 5 on a 5+, and turn 6 on a 6+)
Board Setup and Deployment:
We place 4 ruins all over the place, two in one deployment zone in each corner, one in the center of the board, and another
on the flank of the other deployment zone.
Objectives are placed, one scatters very near the DE deployment zone, the other one pretty much stays where it is.
We roll for initiative, Dark Eldar win and we alternate deployment. I try to steal the initative, but didn't manage to
get a 1, so, first turn for DE too.
The Game:
Turn 1:
Movement Phase:
- Haemonculus joins with one squad of Kabalites and moves up towards no man's land, behind
rubble (providing a 6+ cover). Second squad of Kabalites moves out of a ruin towards No Man's Land.
- Overlord joins with Spyder, hoping to get a nice shield through "Look Out Sir !".
Immortals move towards the objective in their deployment zone.
Shooting Phase:
- The Haemo's squad fires at the Immortals, but being from long range they receive a -1 penalty to their BS,
hitting on 3+ and wounding on 4+ for poison. Sadly, two Immortals go down. The second squad shoots at the Spyder
and the Overlord: Spyder makes "Look Out Sir's", takes 2 wounds due to poison and a lucky Blaster Shot.
- Spyder fires at the Kabalites, shot dosn't scatter thanks to twin-link, and kills 3 Kabalites. The squad makes
a LD test with a -3 modifier and fails it, moving back by 5". Immortals run towards an objective, and Snap Shot
at the Haemo's squad, managing to kill 2 Kabalites.
Note: Immortals fail reanimation protocols and stay down.
Assault:
- Everybody just runs towards objectives.
Turn 2:
Movement:
- Kabalites regroup and moves towards cover. Haemo's unit gets hold of an objective. (They'll get "Feel No Pain" now
because of their Warlord Trait, but Necron units will be able to reroll failed To Hit rolls of 1 against them because
of theirs, wich with Tesla Weapons, is great).
- Spyder (wich is scoring thanks to the Necron's Tactical Asset) gets hold of the closest objective, and Overlord
detaches from the squad, moving in front of the Kabalites. Immortals advance towards the objective controlled by the
Haemo and his unit.
Shooting Phase:
- Kabalites in cover shoot at the Overlord, and he loses two wounds to very lucky shots. Haemo's unit, hoping to get Kill
Points and a Victory Point for at least one unit, shoot at the Spyder, wich melts as vanilla ice-cream in the sahara due to
the Haemo's Liquifier Gun who suddenly is AP1. His unit gains Furious Charge on top of already having Feel No Pain.
- Immortals shoot at the Haemo's unit, kills two guys, they fail their LD test and flee off of the Objective.
Assault Phase:
- Haemo regroups with his last Kabalite buddy and decide to just run towards the Overlord, hoping to maybe finish him
up later. Other Kabalite Squad tries to run through cover but only moves 1" because of Difficult Terrain and finishes in assault
range of the Overlord.
- The Overlord Assaults, gets hit desperatly a bunch of times, but ends up fine, and decides to massacre the remaining
two guys. Immortals run and take hold of the second objective.
Turn 3:
Movement Phase:
- Haemo and his pal move towards the Overlord.
- Immortals stay in place, sitting on their objective.
Shooting Phase:
- Haemo shoots with his ubber-liquifier thing at the Overlord, to no effect.
- Immortals shoot at him, kill off his Kabalite buddy and stripping him of one wound. He passes his moral check.
Assault:
- Haemo assaults the Overlord, but he Mindschackles him and while he dosn't kill himself, he still goes crazy and flops
his six spiky arms all over the place hitting nothing but thin air.
- Overlord dosn't manage to wound him either, despite wielding a bloody Warscythe. The couple just seemed to dance for
the whole assault phase.
Turn 4: (we rolled a D6, got 4, so here goes a fourth turn)
Movement: No one does jack
Shooting: Same as above
Assault: Basically the Overlord trips while dancing and sticks his metal head into one of the haemo's spiky arms. He get's killed
and fails his godamn reanimation protocoles.
We roll a second D6 for turn 5, but got 3, so that was it.
Results:
Dark Eldar:
So Dark Eldar gain 75 Kill Points for destoying the Spyder, and 130 for the Overlord, that's 3 Victory Points.
By killing the Warlord they gain +9 Victory Points for Primary Objectives, instead of +3 for Secondary ones.
They still gain +1 for Secondary's by destroying the Spyder, wich counts as a normal unit. They didn't succed at destroying
more units as Necrons did however, so no doubling their Primary and Secondary Victory Points. They end up with
a score of 11 Victory Points.
- Mission: Failed
- Primary Objective: +9
- Secondary Objectives: +1
- Kill Points: 205pts (+3)
Total: 11
Necrons:
Metal heads got one objective, that's one more than Dark Eldar got, so Mission Accomplished. They still gain +2 for Secondaries
by securizing it. They also gain +2 for finishing off 2 Kabalite Squads, as well as 250 Kill Points, so +3 Victory Points. They also
managed to get their Primary Objective by just getting at least one objective, wich adds +3. Primaries and Secondaries are
doubled due to Mission Accomplished, + a bonus of 3 for Kill Points, making it 17 Victory Points for Necrons.
- Mission: Accomplished
- Primary Objective: +3
- Secondary Objectives: +4
- Kill Points: 250pts (+3)
Total: 17
Summary:
- I think that at a low point game like this one, Necrons already excel, but the thing that really hurt Dark Eldar was
their Missions. Annihilation is not the way to win against Cron's in my opinion, and they just weren't fast enough, on
top of the fact of dying like flies. Failed Moral Checks, bad timing and stuff makes up for a loss. I could of done better
with the Overlord too, in fact, but my Mission felt so easy, just had to sit on as much objectives as possible and just stay
alive to win this one. Still, Necrons win by 6 points !
- Regarding the testing of the House Rules, I barely noticed the changes. Necron shooting was a little less efective, but
still deadly as hell; The Kabalites pretty high initiative, and Feel No Pain did not save them from tesla lightning arcs or
from Blasts. Everyone pretty much got a bonus of +1 to shooting anyway due to short range (the board being rather small).
Blasters and poisoned weapons realy hurt the Spyder though, wich was a good thing for DE.
Overall, I think a much higher point game with lots of different unit types to interact with is needed to really notice
the changes. Still, it was a very short but fun game, and my friend and I had a good laugh at the dancing competition
between the Overlord and the Haemonculi.
