I haven't placed vs nids since somewhere in the 4th edition... But luckely I don't know many players around my group who play them, so don't have to worry about facing them when not knowing anything about that army.

I'd love to play a game against a race unknown to me, its like the necrons have 1st contact with the Nids! Night fighting rules would add fluff to the game as well and hidden setup is nice!

Nids in 5th and nids in 6th are two different beasts. With things like overwatch and not being able to charge turn 1, their assaults get blunted a lot. It forces them to take more guys in a unit, and some of them get a gigantic footprint really fast. Another thing that really hurt their speed was the fleet change.
I forgot to mention Gargoyles before, they rock in 6th. They aren't so good vs crons, since our lowest AV is 11, but vs rhinos/razorbacks ect they can easily surround it, glance it to death with AG, and kill everything inside because it can't disembark. I wrote it off at first but it actually isn't hard for them to do.
Expect to see more Tyranid Primes showing up too, as Lo,S on a 2+ has made him crazy. Even a generic warrior squad with him in it takes a ridiculous amount of small arms fire to put down.
My advice is to try to actively kill any tervigon that has crushing claws in 6th. Don't screw yourself over to get to it, but with so many objective games in 6th, and it spawning scoring units, and it being one of the best units in the dex, it needs to be a priority.

just eldritch lance it to insta death or massed fire from gauss morties after they disembark( dunno whether it's still viable under the new faq but while in transports squads dont have to tke a LD test)

When a Nid unit arrives from a Mycetic spore (their only Transport) It MUST disembark.
It only takes a failed save for the Doom to pass out, but remember its still 3+ invulnerable...
And massed Gauss fire should be avoided unless the target is priority 1 and there is no other choice.

Actually Destructors are not the best to use as the Doom has T4 so only Lances...

When the model has a 3+ invuln save, you can't rely on one or two shot to ID it. The more wounds you cause, the more likely it will die. Also, where are you sticking these crypteks? Most of mine end up in units with massed gauss anyway.
Case and point; the last time I ran the doom, he tarpitted draigo and his company of paladins by challenging draigo, then saving all his wounds for 2 turns. Meanwhile, spirit leech killed 2 paladins out of the squad over those turns. (though that was more luck than anything) Since Doom is a psycher, all those attacks were ID attacks, but I was still alive after 2 rounds.

Actually Destructors are not the best to use as the Doom has T4 so only Lances... they still wound on 2+ i can recall but if doom o malantai is hidden within zoans squad its even harser to ID it end thats the only case when it "replenishes" it's wounds

If it is hiding in a squad then wounds are allocated to the nearest model to the firer.
