My family issues have continued (sadly), so my scheduling has been a bit out of whack. As such, I wasn't able to resume my Sanguinor today as I would have liked, but I did find a few spare moments to paint. Here's some work on the face of the beautiful new plastic Necromancer for the Vampire Counts. I really hope GW continues these little plastic hero kits. Enjoy! IMAG0445.jpg by jmcolbeck, on Flickr

Great job.The shading is seamless and the color looks perfect. I notice you like to focus on completing isolated sections of a model before moving on. I know If I did that I would be worried about ruining the finished section with one of my washing phases... but hey, if it works then keep it up.
Is the hair finished too? It looks sort of blue in the photo. My only comment would be to make it white but I am assuming you were just focusing on the face for now.

Thanks, ravix.
No, I will not be making the hair white. In fact, I try to avoid straight white and/or black whenever I can, as nothing truly reflects those colors in reality. Plus, it allows me to maintain a consistent color palette throughout the model.
If I made the hair white, it would look flat, and may end up so bright that it detracts from the face. There's no blue in his hair, but rather, a selection of greys, browns, and even purples. The strand on the right just photoed "funny" and looks sky blue. It's not in person, I promise. :-)

Thank you.
It's quite a variety of colors, really. I used Vallejo Game Colour Heavy Warmgrey as my base, and mixed in a wide combination of "cool" hues like Hawk Turquoise (or Scurvy Green, if staying in the Vallejo family), Liche Purple, Necron Abyss, and Heavy Charcoal for the shade tones. Adeptus Battlegrey, Khemri Brown + Dheneb Stone, and a little Skull White for the various highlights.
I really just kept going in both directions until I got the "pop" I wanted. I then used a little Scab Red, mixed with some of the base flesh tones to get the effect on the lips and eyelids.
The teeth and eyes are actually both the same, bouncing off of the same Khemri Brown + Dheneb Stone variants, and "yellowed" by staying closer to Khemri Brown.
As complicated as it all sounds, the process actually went rather quickly.

An update! I started some work on his cape. It's got a ways to go, as in some major-league blending still has to take place, but I thought I'd run this for you anyway just to give you an idea of the progress. Enjoy! IMAG0450 by jmcolbeck, on Flickr

Awesome blending. The light purple highlights on the cloak don't look forced. I can't believe it still has "a ways to go", haha.

Greetings all! I've started some additional work on the cloak. I've had a little trouble defining each of the 3 layers of "cloaking" he wears, but I like the effects I've achieved thus far. Moved around the whole model today to get more color everywhere, as well as a little extra pop. Tell me what you think! IMAG0453 by jmcolbeck, on Flickr IMAG0456 by jmcolbeck, on Flickr I will be working on the tattered edges of the cloak next to dirty them up a little bit, and then I will move on to some of the smaller details of the model. I also have a scenic base planned. Thanks for viewing!
